Erdi-School Project Melezanay
The Erdi School in Melezanay was founded in the early 80ies.
During the 30-year war of independence against Ethiopia, it was destroyed. In 1991, after the liberation of our country the school was reconstructed with support of the Eritrean diaspora!
We are proud that currently 755 students are enrolled in 16 classes up to grade 8. However, the premises does not provide sufficient space for secondary education and pupils are coerced to leave homes with only 16 years to attend classes in far-away regional villages.
As they can not move back and forth every day due to lack of transport and financial means, students are forced to rent rooms and pay for food and school materials on their own. They are out of their family structure and absent as local labor force.
This difficult situation does not allow all students to attend secondary school education and many of them remain unskilled.
